The Hasselblad 500 ELX, produced between 1984-1988, is the updated version of its predecessor, the Hasselblad 500 EL/M, famously known as the camera that went to the moon. The ELX introduced notable changes, including a TTL flash metering system and a larger mirror in the camera body to prevent vignetting with telephoto lenses. Retaining the features of the EL/M, the ELX is a heavy-duty, motorized 6x6 medium-format SLR camera system that stands out for its automation.
Unlike the more common Hasselblad 500C and 500C/M, the ELX is equipped with a large, battery-powered winder attached to its base, automating tasks such as film advancement after each exposure, mirror reset, and lens shutter setting. While its size and weight might deter some photographers from using it as a portable camera, its reliability and ease of use make it an excellent choice for studio photography. The inclusion of a TTL flash sensor enhances its capabilities further.
